Sylvia Robyn

Συλβία Ρόμπυν · a film by Panayotis Evangelidis

Digenis, a queer performer, is estranged from his family and almost friendless. A late autism diagnosis sets off a journey of self-discovery, as she comes out as transgender and becomes Sylvia Robyn.

Director’s statement

“Sylvia Robyn is an observational documentary I’ve been making for the last four years. It started as a portrait of Digenis, a 28-year-old queer man I got to know through his performances. I have collected over a hundred hours of footage, plus many of her own videos filmed during quarantine. It is not a film about depression, autism or transgenderism, but a portrait of a person in a constant process of change and transformation — who in her own words ‘would like to stop time and finally enjoy a stability and a happiness’.”

— Panayotis Evangelidis, awarded an Honorary Golden Alexander at TiDF 2024 for his lifetime contribution to cinema
