Synopsis
At the crossroads of Europe, the Evros River has long been a site of passage, survival, and loss. Spanning six decades, Six Letters for a River brings together deeply personal stories that reflect the struggles and resilience of those who live by its waters — or risk everything to cross them.
Director’s statement
I first visited the Evros in 1989 to document the fishermen living along its banks. Decades later, inspired by a story about the Mufti burying anonymous victims, I returned to find an eerie stillness in the landscape and its people — despite the river’s relentless movement, carving new paths while histories repeat. Through six decades and six letters, all voiced by women, I explore lives shaped by the Evros and its unique natural and cultural environment. Shot in black and white, the film reflects a timelessness, even as its stories unfold.
